Miss Bonnie’s Sweet Bread Pound Cake

I previously posted this recipe before here, but it’s a favorite in our household, and I got some better pics of it, so I figured it was time for an encore presentation! It is a traditional sour cream pound cake that my mother-in-law makes, but the family calls in sweet bread.

It actually reminds me a lot of Amish Friendship Bread, or it would be a really great coffee cake as well, or share a slice over a glass of sweet tea on the porch this spring! Either way, it’s an amazing good cake!

Recipe for Miss Bonnie’s Sweet Bread Pound Cake

Ingredients:
2 3/4 cups sugar
3 1/4 cups all purpose flour
6 eggs
2 1/2 sticks margarine
1 8 oz cup sour cream
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp flavoring (any kind) (I use vanilla.)
1 cup chopped nuts (optional) (I used walnuts.)

Directions: Cream margarine and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time, beat after each. Add flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix. Add sour cream and flavoring and beat for 2 minutes. Add nuts and fold in till evenly distibuted throughout batter. Pour into large tube pan. Preheat oven to 325 degrees and bake for one hour and thirty minutes.

*Baking Pan Size/Time Notes: She makes this in a huge tube pan which I can’t seem to find anywhere, so what I do is divide this into 2 bundts, either a full size and then one half full or two 3/4 full bundts.  And alternatively I’ll make one bundt and one dozen muffins.  And I bake the bundt for 1 hour and I bake the muffins for 35 minutes.
