Homemade Shaved Ice & My New NINJA

One of my favorite things about summer is that I get to have shaved ice and snow cones, but sometimes it’s hard to find a place to buy them.  And plus, when you love frozen treats the way I do, I hate that I can only get them in the summer. (Seriously you are reading the blog of someone who’s bought an ICEE when it’s snowing outside! And I confess, I’ve also bought an ICEE and a milkshake at the same time.  Yeah, I’m a little crazy!)

So enter the Ninja Kitchen System 1100, and the problem is solved. You can have a snow cone or shaved ice any day of the week…even when it’s snowing!

I’ve wanted the Ninja ever since I first saw it on tv, and finally I broke down a couple of weeks ago and ordered it off of Amazon.

They have several different packages for the Ninja, including on that just includes the basic blender and pitcher without all the bells and whistles, but I think the whole point of buying the Ninja is so that you can make everything seen on tv, so I went with this package.

It includes an inspiration book with 30 recipes as well as a 150+ recipe book.  Then you also get the dough stand, plus the dough attachment for making breads and pizza dough, the paddle attachment for your cakes and cookies, and the whipping attachment for whipping cream and meringues.

And  of course, it also includes the 70 oz picture and the 40 oz processing bowl, as well as the blade attachments for each of these.  So far I’ve only used this to crush ice, but I’m really excited to use all the attachments!

Back to the shaved ice!  I made us a Strawberry and a Pina Colada shaved ice.   And you truly can crush your ice to either snowcone or shaved ice consistency, and it only takes a few seconds!  And for the flavors, I bought these:

I found this Pina Colada Shaved Ice Syrup and Strawberry Snow Cone & Shaved Ice Syrup  onAmazon.  These are only $5-$6 for a 16 oz bottle, and they have every flavor that you could possibly want! I also found this 10 Flavor Syrup Pack which would be great if you were planning a party or if you just had family that liked different flavors.

Just pour the syrup over your ice, and you’ve got an instant fruity treat!
