Kid’s Desserts: Triple Chocolate Sundae Cake

Back to School with Cool WhipWhen I was a kid, I could hardly wait for an after school snack.  Often this meant stopping by to get a hamburger or ice cream on the way home from school, but there was nothing like coming home to eat a homemade dessert!  My dad used to make such yummy recipes, and he made this one chocolate layer cake that was to die for!

The Cool Whip Icing was definitely the star of the cake, so today I’m sharing this icing with you, so that you can see how adding a little Cool Whip can turn your ordinary dessert in to an extraordinary dessert!

Chocolate Cake

I’m also changing the cake up a bit. Instead of a layer cake, I’m sharing my chocolate bundt cake. It’s just a wee bit easier than the presentation work that goes in to making a layer cake; plus this bundt cake is actually quite special to me too, because this is one of my favorite “semi-homemade cakes,”  and it is also my go-to recipe when it comes to chocolate cake!

But as much as I love the cake, it is very dark, and it really needs something to lighten it up and give it that wow factor.

Now doesn’t that look much more appetizing?  I think so!

If you enjoy sharing an afterschool snack with your kid’s, then you should definitely add this to your menu.  In fact, it is also a good recipe that you can make with your kids!  I used to love helping my dad mix up the cake (not to mention, licking the bowl).  It was so much fun, and it gave us a chance not only to make some memories but also have a little impromptu cooking lesson!

Dad and Jerri Edited

Since my dad is the inspiration for a lot of my cooking and this food post in particular, I thought it would be fun to include a picture of the two of us from back in the day!  I was 12 in the picture above.  It seems like so long ago!

Cool Whip Aisle

One reason this is a great recipe to cook with kids is because it includes simple ingredients like Cool Whip and Jell-O pudding, so how could you possibly go wrong?  I found my Cool Whip at Walmart with the frozen fruit and dessert toppings.

Jello Aisle

And you can find Jell-O pudding and gelatin products in the baking aisle.

Wow! was the first thing I thought when I saw that chocolate syrup covering that cake! We will be having that for our family dinner on the 9th if at all possible. I give it 5 stars!
