Chocolate Pie

Chocolate Pie

I love pie!  I often think of summer as the season for pie, because there are so many that you can serve cold, which is perfect for family picnics, Sunday socials, holiday events, or for a bit of snacking while you’re sitting on the front porch.

Of course, as a dessert fiend, I have many pies that I love to eat, but when pressed, I’d have to say that Chocolate Pie is my ultimate favorite.  Some people also call it Old Fashioned Chocolate Pie or Southern Chocolate Pie…but whatever you call it, it is definitely a classic! It has the perfect mix of dark decadence and sweet yummy goodness.  And the textures of the foamy meringue, chocolate pudding center, and flaky crust make this pie a melt in your mouth, delicious treat.

Believe it or not, the pie is actually a lot easier than you may think.  The thing that most people find difficult is mixing in the eggs properly, so that the pie does not come out with small lumps of egg in it.  But I’ve addressed how to prevent this problem in the directions below.

  1. My hubby is a pie lover, too and he would dive right into this one! I tend to make refrigerator pies in the summer. One of my favorites is a creamy lemony one from the Luby’s cookbook – super simple with only a few ingredients.
