Simply Straight Review and Giveaway

I’m so excited about today’s post!  Most of the time when I review hair care products or do any sort of hair related post, I talk about my natural curly hair that I work hard to tame.  It’s definitely not easy, especially since I live in the South, where the humidity makes it almost impossible to maintain a controlled, frizz-free look.

Below is a picture of me with my curls.  This is what happens when I just scrunch a little mousse in my hair and let it go.  I like it okay, but curly haired girls always want straight hair!

If I want my hair to be even halfway straight, I generally have to go through a whole process:

  • This includes using straightening gels
  • Using a hair dryer with comb attachment (and pulling hard while drying it)
  • Using a straightening iron
  • Using a frizz-free finishing spray
  • And if I really need to look good for the day, a layer of hairspray.

For this process to work at all, I have to keep my hair short.  When my hair is long, this whole process fails and my hair is just a mess.  But even with short hair, if it’s summer time, I know that the straight look will not last the day.

Enter Simply Straight.  I was actually shopping at Target, and when I saw this product on an end cap next to other “As Seen On TV Products.”  Naturally I was interested, and I said to myself, “I have to buy one of these soon!”  But before I got the chance to buy one, I was contacted about reviewing one.  Small World!  Of course I said yes, and I’m so happy I did, because I LOVE the product, and it has totally shortened and simplified my straightening process.

The Simply Straight 2-in-1 Straightener and Brush will quickly replace any hair straightener you’ve ever had!  Unlike my old straightener, which had a knob to turn it on with, this one has a very nice push button.  This straightener also has a LED screen which tells you the temperature of the straightener.  (My old straightener just had numbers: 2, 4, 6, 8…..I don’t even know what that means!)

Simply Straight also heat up fast.  It only takes 1 minute for it to heat up to 350 degrees, and you case increase the heat up for 450 degrees.  (But the 350 degree setting works great for me.)  And just in case you forget to turn it off, it has an automatic shut off after 60 minutes.  (My old iron took several minutes to heat up, and I never knew what the temperature was.)

So how does it work? Well, as the name would imply, it is very simple.   Unlike a lot of other tools, where you almost feel like you need three hands, this was is very easy to maneuver. It works just like a brush!  It has ceramic wrap bristles that give gentle heat and won’t flatten, fry, or damage your hair like flat irons.  You can use it brush underneath the hair or brush over the hair, which ever feels natural to you.  And it is so quick! Here’s a demo video:

The pictures of me in the blue shirt were taken about 5 hours AFTER using the Simply Straight.  As you can see, in spite of the summer humidity, my hair remained relatively straight.  And that’s not all!  Since receiving the Simply Straight, I haven’t put any straightening balm or gel on my hair before blow drying.  I just blow dry my hair (rather quickly, I might add), and then I run the Simply Straight through it.  And then I’m still adding a little finishing spray, but not holding spray.

And then on non hair washing days,  all I have to do is turn on the Simply Straight and treat it like a regular hair brush.  It straightens and freshens up my hair, making it look like I just washed it!

I don’t love I am getting too many gray’s in mine. I am 34 but the gray hair keeps on coming along. Guess maybe that’s from being a single dad and raising my 5 kids and they occasionally give me a new one each day.

  2. What I do not love is that I do not have much volume. I would love more bounce in my hair!

  3. I love that my hair is thick and full!

  4. My hair is course and dry.

I love that my hair has body but not that it’s wavy!

I love the color of my hair, which is very surprising since I spent most of my life dyeing it because I thought I hated the color.
