Did you know that October is National Pet Adoption Month?  As an animal lover and pet parent,  I’m celebrating this event today with a delicious family recipe inspired by Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® cat food, and I’ll also be sharing my own pet adoption story, plus a sweepstakes and information on how you can help shelter animals this month through Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Furever Home™, an organization Helping Shelter Pets Find The Home They Deserve.

Let’s start with the sweepstakes!  During the month of October, you can enter to win a grand prize of $25,000 and a one-year supply of Nutrish® dry dog food or one year worth of Nutrish® dry cat or one of three first prizes of $5,000 and a one-year supply of Nutrish® dry dog food or one year worth of Nutrish® dry cat. For more information on contest rules and how to enter, check out the sweepstakes page.

Mina’s Adoption Story

I adopted Mina a little over a year ago.  The above photo was taken just a couple of weeks after she arrived. When we adopted Mina she was a feral kitten.  Mina’s cat-grandmother, May Belle, was left at my mother-in-law’s house.  After a little over a year and a couple of litters of kittens later, May Belle had her third litter of kittens and three of May Belle’s kittens had kittens of their own.  My mother-in-law was overwhelmed by the growing cat colony; finally they were able to take of the kittens to a shelter.

When we found out there were only 2 kittens and 1 adult cat left, we decided to come and rescue a kitten.  When we found Mina, she was very tiny, perhaps too young to be away from her mother and survive in the outdoors, so I was very happy that we had her, but I was a little nervous that perhaps she couldn’t be tamed.  To my amazement, after just a few days of working with Mina, she was tamed and ready to be introduced to the rest of the household.  And now she is an irreplaceable member of the family and one of the most loving cats I’ve ever seen!  She definitely proves to me that any cat or dog is adoptable; they just need a little love and attention.

Helping Shelter Animals

Every time you purchase a Rachael Ray Nutrish product, you are helping animals.  Rachael’s Rescue® was created for all of the forgotten pets.   A portion of proceeds from each sale of Nutrish is donated to The Rachael Ray Foundation, which helps animals in need through Rachael’s Rescue.

As of September 2017, Rachael’s Rescue has donated more than $21 million dollars to pet charities and other organizations that do good for animals. These donations are used for food, medical supplies, treatments, and more.

During the month of October, Rachael Ray Nutrish is donating $250,000 to benefit shelter pets.  This donation will be made in equal amounts to 3 organizations: Big Dog Ranch, ASPCA, and North Shore Animal League.

  • Big Dog Ranch Rescue is the largest no-kill dog rescue in the Southeastern United States
  • ASPCA(American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is a national leader in the areas of rescue, adoption and welfare and has worked tirelessly for over 150 years to put an end to animal abuse and neglect.
  • North Shore Animal League is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization.

Nutrish

Apart from feeling good that the money from each sale of Nutrish, goes to help animals, you can also feel good about giving this product to your own pets for its high quality and nutritional benefits.  The products are natural with added vitamins and minerals, and Nutrish recipes are made with simple, wholesome ingredients like real meat or fish, and do not contain poultry by-product meal or fillers.

For my kitties, I purchased the Nutrish dry food in the Real chicken & brown rice recipe variety.  I also purchased the Chicken Lover’s variety pack of wet food.  In contains 12 packages of wet food in 3 different flavors: Chicken Purrcata, Paw Lickin’ Chicken & Liver Recipe, Ocean Fish & Chciekn Catch-iatore.

I purchased Rachael Ray Nutrish cat food at Target.

Being chicken lovers, the Simply Sweet Home cats, both young and old, were very excited to try the new foods.

As a mom, I love being able to offer delicious and healthy foods to my whole family.  While the cats feasted on their chicken and brown rice meal from Nutrish, I was inspired to create a homemade dish for the two-legged members of my family.

Like Nutrish, this Homemade Chicken, Broccoli, & Rice Casserole is made with natural, wholesome ingredients.  Unlike a lot of similar recipes that use condensed soup or other packaged ingredients as a shortcut, this recipe actually features a made from scratch sauce.  It’s a great recipe if you wish to give your family delicious, comfort food with a touch of something good for you.
