15 Holiday Gifts for Coffee Drinkers

15 Gifts for Coffee Drinkers

Are you done with your holiday shopping?  I just love holiday gift giving, and I love it even better when you can give a gift that you KNOW someone will love.

Do you ever find yourself just buying gifts that require no thought at all?  Things like gift cards or general audience gifts that could be for anyone (or the “token gift” as I like to call it).  If so, then you should really reconsider your gift giving.  Whether you’re spending $5 or $50, it is the THOUGHT that counts.

Before buying another gift card or scented candle, think about what your gift recipient really loves.  What are their hobbies? What are they passionate about?  And if don’t know the answers to these questions, then find the answer by asking another family member or friend, or even by checking out the person’s Facebook or other social media profiles. McCafe Hazelnut Coffee

I’m generally a very happy and cheerful person, but I HATE getting up in the mornings!  I always have!  On days when I don’t have to wake up at a certain time, I’m good, but when that clock radio jolts me awake in the morning, it’s like one of the worst feelings on earth!   To paraphrase what my husband has said, “I definitely need a few minutes to get myself together when I first wake up.”  So I take my “few minutes to get myself together” while Noah eats his breakfast and gets ready for school.  Then we drive to school, and since I work from home, it is oh-so-tempting to just jump right back in bed after I come home from dropping him off!  (And okay…sometimes when there’s nothing pressing to do or I have a migraine or haven’t slept well, I may do just that!)  But most days I need to stay up and get things done, and then I need my morning caffeine fix!  Enter McCafé!

5 Most Common Mistakes Associated with Bad Coffee

For a lot of people, drinking a cup of coffee is an essential start to the day, but how often have you been disappointed by your first cup of the morning? If your coffee is too bitter, or too weak, then the whole experience can be ruined.

There are several mistakes people often make when making a cup of coffee, we’re going to take a look at five of them so you can avoid these pitfalls in future.

1. Using old coffee beans

You should always use coffee beans within one to two weeks of purchasing them, so make sure you only buy as much as you’re going to use in this timeframe. Using older beans can leave your coffee with a horrible bitter taste. If you can’t remember how old your coffee is, you may want to start labelling the container or dropping a piece of cardboard inside with the date of purchase.

2. Using the wrong grind for your coffee machine

It may be tempting to grind your coffee beans into a fine dust, so that you get the most value from your purchase, but making your beans last longer does not necessarily represent good value. Different coffee machines, such as the Oracle, require different grinds depending on the brewing method used.

If you have a grind that’s too fine for the brewing method you’re using, then your cup of coffee may again taste very bitter. Conversely, if the grind is too coarse then the coffee may be too weak.

3. Making mistakes with the water

A cup of coffee is made from 98% water, so if the water isn’t right then your coffee doesn’t stand a chance. Tap water is a major culprit in poor tasting coffee, and you’ll need to judge this for yourself; if your tap water is too metallic, this flavour will most likely transfer to your coffee.

Pay attention to the temperature of your water. You should never make coffee with boiling water as you can scald the beans, the ideal temperature for your water is around 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Using the wrong amount of coffee

If you’re trying to make your coffee beans last longer then you could be tempted to use fewer beans; this isn’t a good idea. The optimum amount of coffee to use is 2 tablespoons per 6 ounces of water. If you don’t use enough coffee then your drink can taste bitter and watery. If you want a cup of coffee that’s on the weak side, it’s better to add water to your cup than to increase the ratio of water to beans during the brewing process.

5. Keeping coffee beans in the freezer You should always try and keep your coffee beans somewhere away from the light, heat and moisture. If you store your beans in the freezer, moisture will condense on them when they are removed from storage – this will make your beans taste awful.

Avoid these simple mistakes and you will be well on the way to making the great tasting cup of coffee you crave in the mornings. Don’t forget to experiment with these variables as taste is unique to each individual.
