Creating a Stylized Outdoor Space Part 4 #Digin

Barnsley

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Home Depot.

This week I am wrapping up my post series on creating a stylized outdoor space.  I have to be honest, before starting this series,I had always primarily focused on the patterns and colors of cushions and throw pillows when it came to furniture, but as I’ve looked over all the products available in store at The Home Depot and seen the ideas and tips they have  on their The Garden Club site, I’ve really gotten inspired and learned that there is so much more to outdoor living design.

For this final post, I just want to give a few more tips and reiterate some of the main ideas that I’ve written about previously.  First let’s start with this video, which basically gives you the main idea that I’ve taken away from writing this series:

And now for some final tips and things to consider for decorating your outdoor space:

Purpose – Consider your purpose and who will be using the space.  If you like to dine outside choose a dinette set (or bistro set for small areas).  If you don’t like to eat outside, go with a loveseat, chairs, and coffee table (or chairs and side table for small areas).  Then again, if you are shopping for your own personal space to be used for reading or using the computer, a simple chair or chaise lounge should suffice.

Materials – When choosing outdoor furniture, materials are a very important feature to consider.  Take in to account the weather exposure and the maintenance involved to keep the furniture looking good.  (All around, I like the all weather wicker.) Also, the purpose for which you will be using the furniture may help you to determine what material to use. (For example, if you like to rearrange your furniture, choose light weight materials like aluminum as opposed to heavy wrought iron.)

Rearranging – Think outside the box! Freshen up the look of your space by re-arranging the furniture. Move the loveseat out from the wall. Place the chairs at a new angle. Anything goes!

Storing Extra Furniture – If you enjoy entertaining for big crowds but don’t want your area cluttered by chairs all the time, you can easily create an outdoor living area for everyday purposes and then buy additional chairs in a light weight material; these extra chairs can be stored until you are ready to bring them out for a party.

Cushions – I recommend getting an extra set of cushions for your furniture, so that you can get a fresh look any time.

Accessories – Add accessories like an umbrella to your dining set, or if you have an outdoor patio area, put up a gazebo or  Pergola.

Accents & Decor – Finally finish off your outdoor living room with fresh flowers, center pieces, and lawn ornaments from The Home Depot.

Look at you!!! You’re a vlogging pro now! 🙂 I really need to update my outdoor furniture… White plastic chairs just aren’t cutting it anymore!

  2. Thanks for all of the great tips in the entire series.

Enjoying the tips! It really does make a difference about where you live, what kinds of materials can be used, the purpose of the space, etc. I have cushion-less chairs right now, looking for some replacement ones after my last cushions were finally so faded and discolored that I’m embarrassed to use them, lol! I love it all–the tables and chairs, the lounging pieces–and am hoping to re-do a couple of my outdoor spaces this year. Thanks for the tips!
