I love homemade bread! Last year I had the chance to try Fleischmann’s Simply Homemade Bread Mixes, and I made this lovely loaf of wheat bread:
Check out the wheat bread: HERE.
The bread turned out just fabulous! So I was very excited when I was asked to try Fleischmann’s Simply Homemade Pretzel Mix! You can find this mix along with other Fleishmann’s Simply Homemade mixes in the baking section at your local market.
For this baking project, I decided to use the pretzel mix to make Cheddar Bacon Pretzel Bites. For these, I rolled the dough in to 1.5 inch balls (and I made some of them smaller, only because I didn’t know if they would rise). But you could also make actual pretzel shapes, or sticks, twists, bigger rolls, or even in to a bread loaf.
Either way you to choose to do it, this recipe makes for a great party appetizers or just a snack for the family!
Ingredients:
1 package Simply Homemade® Pretzel Creations™
3/4 cup very warm water (120º to 130ºF)
1 tablespoon Vegetable Oil
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup cooked and crumbled bacon (or Real Bacon Bits)
Egg Wash:
1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water
Directions:
Combine pretzel mix and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Stir in very warm water, oil, cheese and bacon until thoroughly combined. (Dough may be stiff; use hands if desired).
Cover dough and let rise 25 minutes in a warm, draft-free place. (Dough will not double in size.)
Preheat oven to 400°F. Spray a large muffin tin with cooking spray (or you may use a cookie sheet).
Pull off pieces of dough an roll in to 1 to 1.5 inch balls (or other sizes and shapes as you desire). Place balls inside muffin tin cups or on cookie sheet.
Generously brush each ball with egg wash. (You may also top with additional cheese at this time.)
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve immediately with your favorite condiments. I recommend honey mustard and ranch dip.
