I’m generally a very happy and cheerful person, but I HATE getting up in the mornings! I always have! On days when I don’t have to wake up at a certain time, I’m good, but when that clock radio jolts me awake in the morning, it’s like one of the worst feelings on earth! To paraphrase what my husband has said, “I definitely need a few minutes to get myself together when I first wake up.” So I take my “few minutes to get myself together” while Noah eats his breakfast and gets ready for school. Then we drive to school, and since I work from home, it is oh-so-tempting to just jump right back in bed after I come home from dropping him off! (And okay…sometimes when there’s nothing pressing to do or I have a migraine or haven’t slept well, I may do just that!) But most days I need to stay up and get things done, and then I need my morning caffeine fix! Enter McCafé!
McCafé is a new line of coffee products by Kraft. Recently I visited Walmart and participated in a product demo of this new product. After trying the product and learning about the different varieties available, I chose the Hazelnut Coffee.
McCafé is made with 100% Arabica Beans and is available in bags as well as individual pods, and you’ll find it in 8 varieties, including the Hazelnut, French Roast, Premium Roast, and Breakfast Blend.
Which McCafé would you like to try?
Early in the morning, I love a little breakfast, which could be just a simple bowl of cereal or (preferably) a hot breakfast of bacon & eggs or a sausage biscuit.
But other times, I want something sweet in the mornings! There are so many sweet treats that go great with coffee: cinnamon rolls, muffins, donuts, French toast, and coffee cake.
Unfortunately these sweet options aren’t always available at my house, unless I make a quick trip to the Walmart bakery or do a little early morning baking. Luckily I have an easy-fix solution to satisfy your morning cravings and sweet tooth without leaving the house OR spending the whole morning baking: a 3-2-1 Mug Cake!
This is such a great shortcut to dessert! Just take a box of angel food cake mix and any other cake mix flavor of your own choosing. Then place them in one gallon freezer bag. Seal the bag and shake well to mix! This mix will make a lot of 3-2-1 mug cakes!
Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I decided to make a Red Velvet Angel Food Cake. The great thing about this mug cake, apart from being fast and easy, is that you can use the angel food cake with various other cake flavors, and you can also sweeten the cake up with any frostings or other sweet decorations and garnishes you like.
Ingredients:
To Make Mix:
1 box Angel Food Cake Mix
1 box Red Velvet Cake Mix
For an individual mug cake:
3 tablespoons mix
2 tablespoons water
Directions:
Take a box of angel food cake mix and any other cake mix flavor (Red velvet, in this case). Place cake mixes in a 1 gallon bag. Seal bag and shake to mix.
To make one mug cake, place 3 tablespoons of the combined cake mixes in a microwave safe coffee mug. Add 2 tablespoons water. Mix well. Mixture will bubble and rise a bit. Then place in microwave for 1 minute.
Be careful as you remove from the microwave, as the mug will likely be very hot!
You can eat the cake straight out of the mug or use a fork around the outside edges to gently loosen the cake, and then dump the cake out of the mug and on to a plate.
Eat your cake plain or use your favorite frosting and other toppings. (See my suggestions below.)
Notes
My suggested toppings and garnishes for the Red Velvet Angel Food Cake include:
Cream Cheese Frosting, Whipped Topping, Chocolate Syrup, Chocolate Frosting, Chocolate Chips, Candies.
Note: Although any name brand mix will do, make sure when you purchase your angel food cake mix, that you get a mix that is a one-bag mix. Some store brand mixes include 2 bags (a flour mix and an egg white mix), and I'm not sure if these will work in this recipe.

What would you make to go with your McCafé coffee?
I am not a morning person, so I definitely need a few minutes to wake myself up! It doesn’t help that I have 2 of the 3 kids jumping into bed to wake me (it would be all 3 but one is still crib-bound)! A fresh cup of McCafé and a tasty mug cake sound like a great way to start the day! Thanks for sharing your morning routine! #client
