Take the LISTERINE® 21-Day Challenge

Disclosure: I received LISTERINE® Brand products and a Walgreens gift card from Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the LISTERINE® 21-Day Challenge. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own.

It’s February! Are you still going strong with your New Year’s resolutions, or have they sort of fallen by the wayside? Wherever you stand, it’s never to early or late to set new goals toward healthy living.  I recently turned 32, so I’m starting to look more and more at health matters.  It’s very hard to make lifestyle changes, so I always like to start with small and simple goals.  This month I’m making a simple and small change by joining the Listerine® 21-Day Challenge!  And I’m inviting all my readers to join too.  So who’s coming with me?

Listerine 21 Day Challenge

The Listerine® 21-Day Challenge is based on the idea that you can make any good habit stick after just 21 consecutive days.  And in this case, we’re not talking about a huge change like a specialty diet or daily exercise routine.  The task we have to stick to during the 21-Day Challenge is….rinsing with Listerine for 30 seconds, twice a day!  That’s it?  Yes, that’s it!

Why?  Well, as most of you know oral hygiene is important for preventing tooth loss, gingivitis, and periodontal disease; not to mention that poor dental health has also been linked to a whole host of other health problems.  Despite this knowledge, it is said that 75% of Americans have gum disease.  Perhaps this is because brushing alone only cleans 25% of your mouth, whereas rinsing each morning and night reaches virtually 100% of your mouth.

If you’re asking yourself whether 21 days of rinsing will really help, consider this:  You should have up to 5 times healthier gums in 2 weeks and up to 9 times healthier gums in 4 weeks.  I don’t know about you, but I think that is remarkable!

Personally I’ve always had what I call “bad teeth.”  It seems no matter how much I brushed or flossed I would get a cavity and need a filling, or worse, a root canal. (Ah!)  My dentist has blamed a lot of it on damage that was done during the “braces years.”  I know when I had my braces on from age 14 to 16, I didn’t have the best habits, and I rarely ever flossed.  As a result, after those braces came off, I was rewarded with a fun trip to the denist and about 5 fillings included!  (And as I said, my fun continues!)

If rinsing with Listerine® can really help this much, it’s definitely something I need to do!  And I’m excited to take the 21-Day Challenge and hopefully get on the road to some better healthy habits and less dental pain!

It’s also a great challenge for the whole family.  We have a teenage boy in our household who should be getting braces some time soon.  And I definitely wouldn’t wish any of the problems I’ve had on him, so I’ll be encouraging him to adopt some good dental habits going forward!

Now apart from the simple routine of rinsing twice a day, Listerine is hoping to help us out in other ways.  When you sign up for the 21-Day Challenge (a process which takes less than a minute), you will also have the opportunity to pick one of three coaches who will send you daily emails, coaching you in other areas of your life: home organization, health, and fitness. (I chose the organization coach, because I’m always looking for new tips in that area!)  And you will have a daily opportunity to instantly win prizes like an Amazon Fire TV, $100 Container Store Gift Card, and more!
