Pork tenderloin is one of my favorite foods! To me, it tastes far better than other types of roast, and it isn’t nearly as greasy as other cuts of meat we’ve tried. With springtime here and summer just around the corner, it is the perfect time to cook up some pork tenderloin on the grill. Pork tenderloin is a very easy meat to grill, and Smithfield® makes the process even easier with their Marinated Fresh Pork products.

I recently purchased the Smithfield Applewood Smoked Bacon Loin Filet, Smithfield Slow Smoked Mesquite Flavor Loin Filet, and the Smithfield Roasted Garlic & Cracked Peppercorn Tenderloin. We always like to have a tenderloin or two on hand. They are great for a last minute cookout, and they are a great food to cook when we are having family over.
Smithfield® Fresh Pork products are available at Walmart in the pork section of the meat aisle.
Over the weekend we cooked the Smithfield® Applewood Smoked Bacon Pork Filet. It was really delicious, and I was amazed at the bacon flavor that came out in the meat!
When we grill a pork tenderloin, we always wrap it up in foil. If you are going to slice it after cooking, you should cook it at about 225 degrees for around 6 hours. But I personally prefer pulled pork, and for that we grill it at about 350 degrees for about 2 or 3 hours. (Keep in mind, your cooking time could vary, depending on the size of your meat and based on how hot your grill gets.)
My husband says the key to a tenderloin that’s easy to pull apart is to cook it very fast and at a hot temperature, until the tenderloin is 170 degrees in the middle.
You’ll also want to check the tenderloin a couple of times during the cooking process. To do this, you should use grilling gloves to upwrap the tenderloin and use a thermometer to check the temperature.
But for a quick and convenient meal, you can slice the tenderloin before cooking. This will shorten the cooking time to 30-45 minutes.
As you can see, the Smithfield® Applewood Smoked Bacon Pork Filet came out very juicy!
And the 1.5 pound tenderloin yielded a lot of pulled pork! The pulled pork is delicious as an entree and served with a couple of sides like potato salad and baked beans. But we usually serve the meat on sandwiches.
And then on other occasions, we use the pulled pork to make loaded pork potatoes. One of our favorite barbecue places serves these and they are absolutely delicious, and we love being able to make our own at home! The baked potatoes take only 25-30 minutes to cook, so you can bake these while you wait for your meat to cool for pulling. You can also save time by purchasing wrapped baked potatoes from the Walmart produce department. These can be baked in about 7 minutes (+ 1 minute for each additional potato).
Ingredients:
1.5 lb Pulled Pork
6-8 Baking potatoes
Butter
Sour Cream
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Bacon Bits
Chives
BBQ Sauce (optional)
Directions:
Slice tenderloin and grill your pork tenderloin until the meat is about 170 degrees in the middle. This will make it hot enough to be cooked through and easy to pull apart. (If sliced you should be able to cook the tenderloin at 350 degrees for about 30-45 and have it come out done for pulling.*) Once your pork is finished cooking, allow it to set for for a few minutes before pulling. This will ensure that the meat stays nice and moist.
While pork is setting up, bake your potatoes. Once potatoes are baked and pork is pulled, prepare your potatoes.
Split open a potato. Use a fork to pull the potato apart; your potato should look a lot like mashed potatoes within your potato skin. Mix a little melted butter in the potato. Top with sour cream. Then top with cheddar cheese, followed by bacon bits and chives. Finally top with pulled pork, and if you'd like, add your favorite barbecue sauce (optional).
Serve and enjoy!
*Note - If you do not slice the tenderloin before cooking, it will take 2-3 hours to cook at 350 degrees. So slicing is best for quick recipes.
