When that’s the case, you need to be able to recover from that surgery. The care that you need may take longer than you anticipated, but your recovery is important and how you recover determines whether you can get back on your feet faster.

The good news is that there are plenty of ways that you can heal quickly. Time is one of the biggest healers, of course, but you have to make your recovery an easy one. The slower you heal, the more at risk you are of post-surgery complications. If you are the person at home and in need of recovery, then you need to consider how you can make life easier on yourself.   1. Make a list of things you’ll need. If you’re going to be at home for a few weeks trying to recover, you need a list of things that will make that easier. From medications post-surgery to things like hospital beds and wheelchairs, you need to turn a part of your home into a place to convalesce and recover. You also don’t want to have to scramble for things to buy. Get some friends and family to help you to get everything together if you can’t move much, and make sure that it’s set up at home before you leave the hospital.
  2. You have to prepare for a smooth transition. You need your home to be ready so get everyone around you to ensure that not only do you have a ride home from the hospital, you have a home that’s ready and clean for you to get to. You have to make it easy for yourself to get around, which is where a home stair lift will help. If all of these things are in place before you get there, you won’t have to do too much more to help yourself.
  3. Make yourself comfortable. You will be recovering for a while, and that means ensuring that you are feeling comfortable. You want to know that you have the right TV streaming programs, meals in just to reheat and you have to have enough pillows and blankets to keep you warm and comfortable while you’re watching TV or just sleeping! If you haven’t, enlist the help of a nurse or even a friend to ensure that you can complete things like personal care!
  4. Go to all appointments. If your doctors have listed some appointments for you to go to, you need to go to them. Your recovery depends on it and you need to know that you are being well looked after. If you have a live-in carer or friend to help you while you recover, they can help you to get from place to place and all of your appointments so that you don’t have to manage it alone. 
  5. Don’t go beyond your limitations. If you can’t move around, don’t force yourself to do anything. You need to think about your own movement along with what your doctor tells you not to do. The healing process takes time and you want to make sure that you’re not going back to square one while you’re trying to get back on your feet. The last thing that you need is to find that you can’t follow the instructions because you’re limited and you don’t have enough help. 
  6. Remember that the doctors are there to help. It doesn’t matter what you have been in hospital for or what the injury is, you need to think about the help that you have available to you. Your doctor is there for you but you might need longer term help with medications, meals or personal care. You need to think about whether you have asked for help and it’s not the time to be prideful. You need to feel better and the best way to do it is to ask for help. Your recovery really does matter, and without their help, you’re not going to get to it! Be smart, ask for help.
